Excellence
Workshops:
Since 2006, we at NG have organised a series of Workshops in Excellence
for students of 10th and 12th standards - facing crucial pubic
examinations - their parents and teachers at a local matriculation
school in Coimbatore. The intent of these workshops was to motivate
and inspire students and teachers to contractually work towards
excellence in public exam results and to most importantly, alleviate
exam anxiety. Basic Transactional Analysis concepts and innovative
studying techniques were actively used in these workshops. One
of the most gratifying results of this workshop was that this
school achieved 100% results after a gap of 3 years. |
Empowerment & Training
of Barefoot Counsellors at Nagercoil:
A very enriching experience for NG is its association
with MALAR (Mahalir Association for Literacy Awareness and Rights),
a women’s empowerment group with a membership of around
30,000 women.
In March 2006, NG undertook an
assessment workshop for a group of field workers and village
co-coordinators of MALAR. This was followed by a training programme
in February 2007 with an evaluation and certification process
for 20 barefoot counsellors. An introduction to Transactional
Analysis (TA 101) and basic counseling skills was imparted in
5 modules in a period of 6 months. This training aimed at providing
basic skills to these rural women that would enable them to
become barefoot counsellors.

 |
The
success of this training can be gauged in the fact that -
- The participants gained skills
to undertake counselling work in a confident and professional
manner.
- After the completion of the
6 month TA 101 and Counselling Course, three participants
were selected as counsellors in a de-addiction centre at Nagercoil.
This employment validated the skills and the confidence gained
by these women.
- This proved that specialized
education could open newer avenues for income generation in
rural areas.

at Coimbatore. More than 75 teachers along with the school principals
participated in this workshop. The focus of these workshops
were to- Provide an opportunity to explore new teaching methodologies,
Role clarity - Not mixing the personal and professional roles
and responsibility - “teachers are a second mother for
the child”. There is difference between “mother”
and being “motherly”. Teachers need to be motherly
in their approach and attitude and not assume the role of a
mother to the student. Contracting before starting the class.
